PhD History of Art, ’30

Hi all! My name is Chris and I’m a first-year PhD student in Art History, with a focus on Renaissance Italian art and intellectual history. Born and raised in Shanghai, I was trained in Renaissance history at the Warburg Institute in London and then spent two fruitful years at Oxford reading for two Master’s in Classics and Italian literature. During my time there I developed a growing enthusiasm for oil painting and pottery, organized classes in both arts for my college and assisted with outdoor painting sessions and wood firings at a local anagama kiln. I have also been trained in palaeography (i.e. the study of old scripts) and book history and have worked with the bibliographical press at Oxford.

I would love to explore similar opportunities with you all and enjoy the wealth of resources at Davenport! Feel free to reach out to my for any art or literature-related questions; and catch me at the Beinecke or YUAG, if not in New York for alternative pop gigs.
